The OSHA card is the gate
Many sites require an OSHA 10 card before you may work at all, and some require OSHA 30 for supervisory roles. It is inexpensive, takes a day or two, and is the single most direct thing you can do to become hireable on a site. Buy it from an authorised provider — cards from unauthorised sellers are worthless and are checked.
NCCER Core, and why it travels
NCCER Core covers the shared ground beneath every trade: safety, tools, measurement, blueprints, materials, and rigging basics. Because the curriculum is standardised nationally, completion is portable between employers and states in a way in-house training is not, and it is the usual prerequisite before specialising into a trade pathway.
The four hazards that account for most deaths
Falls, being struck by objects, caught-in or caught-between incidents, and electrocution are consistently the leading causes of construction fatalities. Every serious safety programme is organised around them, and every one is preventable with practices that are well established and not complicated. Recognising the four in a situation before it develops is the core competency.
