La regla · The rule

More marks are lost to misread instructions than to bad Spanish. The three verbs that matter: redacte (write a full text), justifique (give reasons), and unas 250 palabras (and they do count).

Y también · And also

Underline the task word, the audience and the length before you write anything. Escriba una carta al alcalde de su ciudad tells you the register as clearly as any grammar rule. Yo escribo con claridad — clearly, which is what every instruction is really asking for.

Ojo · Watch out

redacte means write a full text, justifique means give reasons, aproximadamente sets the length. Underline the task word, the audience and the length before you write. The instructions use the usted command form.

escribir, presente — the table

yo escribo · tú escribes · él/ella/usted escribe · nosotros escribimos · ustedes escriben · ellos/ellas escriben

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 9 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with redactar.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out escribir, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
