La regla · The rule
A noticia breve is a short news item about an ordinary event — a fire, a theft, a rescue — and Spanish papers have a house style for it: the passive or the se, no adjectives, facts in order.
Y también · And also
Se declaró un incendio anoche. Tres personas fueron evacuadas. No hubo heridos. Notice the se and the passive — this is where Module 2 and Module 3 meet on one page. Ellas son evacuadas: the passive agrees in gender and number.
Ojo · Watch out
A noticia breve is written with se or the passive and no adjectives: tres personas fueron evacuadas, participle agreeing. And there were no injured is no hubo heridos — hubo, the pretérito of hay.
evacuar, voz pasiva — the table
él es evacuado · ella es evacuada · ellos son evacuados · ellas son evacuadas
Do it now — on paper
Say all 10 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with la noticia breve.
Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
Write out evacuar, voz pasiva in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.
This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
