La regla · The rule

Object pronouns attach to the end of an infinitive, a gerundio and an affirmative command, and the written accent keeps the stress where it was: dámelo, diciéndoselo, entrégueselo. Written Spanish of a century ago attached them to any verb: díjole, contestóle — read it, never write it.

Y también · And also

The rule for the accent is mechanical: count the syllables from the end. dame + lo = dámelo (stress three from the end, so an accent). Two pronouns go in a fixed order, se before lo: dáselo, never dálose.

Ojo · Watch out

díjole and contestóle are nineteenth-century prose — recognize them as dijo + le, contestó + le, and never produce them. Today the pronoun attaches only to the infinitive, the gerundio and the affirmative command: dámelo, diciéndoselo.

entregar, imperativo — the table

tú entrega · usted entregue · nosotros entreguemos · ustedes entreguen

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 8 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with díjole.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out entregar, imperativo in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
