La regla · The rule

Spanish officialdom writes in a register of its own, and at C2 you have to read it without flinching. Adjunto remito. Se ruega confirmar asistencia. A la espera de su respuesta. Salvo error u omisión.

Y también · And also

You will rarely write it. You will constantly read it — on a lease, a tax notice, a hospital letter — and the single most useful habit is to translate each sentence into plain Spanish before deciding what it asks of you.

Ojo · Watch out

adjunto remito is fixed — adjunto does not agree with what is enclosed. salvo error u omisión: o becomes u before a word starting with o. se ruega is you are kindly requested, an order in a courteous coat.

rogar, presente — the table

yo ruego · tú ruegas · él/ella/usted ruega · nosotros rogamos · ustedes ruegan · ellos/ellas ruegan

remitir, presente — the table

yo remito · tú remites · él/ella/usted remite · nosotros remitimos · ustedes remiten · ellos/ellas remiten

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 10 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with adjunto remito.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out rogar, presente and remitir, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
