La regla · The rule
A taste of the next band — longer, but built from what you own: Lea vive en Lima desde hace tres años. Antes vivía en Cartagena, cerca del mar. Extraña el mar, pero le gusta mucho su nueva escuela. El fin de semana que viene, sus primos vendrán a su casa por primera vez.
Y también · And also
Two new machines are visible: desde hace (for, still going on) and vendrán (a futuro simple you can now read). B1 is not a wall; it is more of this.
Ojo · Watch out
desde hace takes the PRESENT for something still going on: vive en Lima desde hace tres años — she has lived there for three years, and still does. Never the pretérito.
Do it now — on paper
Say all 7 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with desde hace.
Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
Write two sentences of your own that get the watch-out line right, then the two practice pages of workbook lesson 28 in Module 5 are the written half of this page.
This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
