About this book

Real cursive, one letter at a time — with the arrows that show the pen the way.

Cursive is not print in a fancy dress. It has its own moves, and this book teaches them in the order hands learn: the swing, the bump, the loop, then the letters that share each move, and finally the joins that turn letters into words. The letters are the traditional American looped cursive taught in school, checked letter by letter, and every join on every page is drawn by the lettering itself, so the model and the dotted copy always agree.

  • 26 small letters in four stroke families, each with a start dot, a direction arrow, a spoken cue to read aloud, and the letter joined to the one you learned before it
  • Traces that fade: six gray letters, then one at each end, then four lines with nothing to copy, and circle your best one
  • Every capital, A to Z, with its own arrow and cue — then the capitals at the front of real names, where fifteen of them join straight on and eleven lift the pen, and the extra start dot shows you which
  • Join school: a Join Map of every bridge in the book, six join drills, the four checks (shape, size, spacing, slant) and the space between words
  • Then real words: two letters, three, four, double letters, your name, and the numbers in cursive
  • Find the missing letter: a word with one letter lifted out of the middle and both its bridges gone with it — put all three back, then write the whole word
  • Dot-to-dot letters for every family, two reading games, a letter-size sort, an A to Z reference, and a Cursive Mastery certificate
  • Written for both hands: the model letter sits at BOTH ends of every tracing row, so a left hand never covers the example, and both hands are shown how to tilt the paper
  • Copy it again: any page may be photocopied for your own family or classroom

Book one of two. This book is the letters and the joins. Cursive Words and Sentences is the next rung: whole words, phrases and sentences on the same ruling, in the same lettering.

For ages 6 to 8, on the three-line ruling school uses, 8.5 by 11 inches so every writing row is full size. Ten minutes at a time is plenty.

From LearnPassGrow. One rung at a time.
