Les jours de la semaine — the days of the week

Lundi through dimanche — the seven days, plus aujourd’hui (today) and demain (tomorrow). French days are not capitalized and the week starts on Monday. Two habits per day — say today’s day when you wake, tomorrow’s when you sleep — and the set installs itself in a week.

Hear the words

Each word is read twice — say it back in the gap. Computer-generated voice; credits on the course page.

Small letters, Monday first

French writes lundi, never Lundi, and calendars begin the week on Monday. Say the full week as a chant — every day but dimanche ends in the same -di.

The daily sentence

Aujourd’hui, c’est mardi. Demain, c’est mercredi. Two sentences a day, real and true, is spaced repetition without a flashcard — though the flashcards help too.

Do it now — on paper

  1. Chant the seven days three times; clap on the -di.
  2. Say today’s and tomorrow’s sentence every morning this week.
  3. Write the week from memory — check mercredi and dimanche closely.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The French Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.

Keep these words

Turn this lesson’s words into flashcards, then space your reviews — the two habits the research behind our study guides backs hardest.
