Hear the words

Each word is read twice — say it back in the gap. Computer-generated voice; credits on the course page.

La règle · The rule

Three things put the object in front of the verb: the relative que, a pronoun (la, les, nous), and a question with quel. Je les ai vus. Quelle décision a-t-il prise?

Et aussi · And also

The test is mechanical. Find the participle, ask "what?", and see whether the answer is already behind you on the page. If it is, agree with it.

Attention · Watch out

Three things put the object in front: the relative que, an object pronoun, a question with quel. je les ai vus — the les came first, so the participle agrees.

voir, passé composé — the table

je ai vu · tu as vu · il/elle a vu · nous avons vu · vous avez vu · ils/elles ont vu

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 8 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the French spelling alone — begin with je les ai vus.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the French.
  3. Write out voir, passé composé in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The French Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
