Hear the words
Each word is read twice — say it back in the gap. Computer-generated voice; credits on the course page.
La règle · The rule
Read the list and do not be modest about it. You read a newspaper, a report and a novel. You write a letter, an essay, a synthesis and a complaint. You narrate, hypothesize, concede and refuse.
Et aussi · And also
You choose a register on purpose. You hear an idiom and an irony. And you know where your own French is weakest, which is a C2 skill in its own right.
Attention · Watch out
savoir où l'on est faible is une compétence en soi, a skill in itself. savoir is irregular — je sais, nous savons, ils savent, past participle su. sans exagérer means without exaggerating, not without saying.
savoir — the table
je sais · tu sais · il/elle sait · nous savons · vous savez · ils/elles savent
Do it now — on paper
Say all 8 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the French spelling alone — begin with la liste de ce que vous faites.
Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the French.
Write out savoir in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.
This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The French Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
