La règle · The rule

The near future is aller + an infinitive: Je vais manger — I am going to eat. Tu vas jouer. Nous allons regarder un film.

Et aussi · And also

You already conjugate aller (Module 2), so this tense is free: one verb moves, the other stays in its dictionary form.

Attention · Watch out

In the futur proche only aller changes; the second verb stays in the infinitive: nous allons regarder, never nous allons regardons.

aller — the table

je vais · tu vas · il/elle va · nous allons · vous allez · ils/elles vont

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 6 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the French spelling alone — begin with je vais manger.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the French.
  3. Write out aller in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The French Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
