Each word is read twice — say it back in the gap. Computer-generated voice; credits on the course page.

La règle · The rule

Module 5 gave you je serai and j'aurai. Now the whole system: the infinitive plus -ai, -as, -a, -ons, -ez, -ont. Je finirai, tu viendras, nous parlerons. An -re verb drops its final e first: prendre gives je prendrai.

Et aussi · And also

L'année prochaine, je finirai mes études et je viendrai te voir. The futur simple is the tense of plans and promises — B1 uses it everywhere.

Attention · Watch out

An -re verb drops its final e before the future endings: prendre gives je prendrai, attendre gives j'attendrai. Never je prendreai.

finir, futur simple — the table

je finirai · tu finiras · il/elle finira · nous finirons · vous finirez · ils/elles finiront

venir, futur simple — the table

je viendrai · tu viendras · il/elle viendra · nous viendrons · vous viendrez · ils/elles viendront

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 7 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the French spelling alone — begin with le projet.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the French.
  3. Write out finir, futur simple and venir, futur simple in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The French Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
