La règle · The rule
French can build a consequence out of an intensity. Il faisait tellement froid que nous sommes rentrés — it was so cold that we went home. Si works the same way with an adjective: il était si fatigué qu'il s'est endormi.
Et aussi · And also
With a noun, use tant de or tellement de: il y avait tant de monde que nous n'avons rien vu. And si bien que simply means with the result that: il a plu, si bien que le match a été annulé.
Attention · Watch out
tellement... que and si... que build a consequence from an intensity; with a noun it is tant de or tellement de: tant de monde, never tellement monde.
faire, imparfait — the table
je faisais · tu faisais · il/elle faisait · nous faisions · vous faisiez · ils/elles faisaient
Do it now — on paper
Say all 8 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the French spelling alone — begin with tellement... que.
Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the French.
Write out faire, imparfait in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.
This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The French Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
