French "my" agrees with the noun it touches: mon père, ma mère, mes parents. The pattern maps straight onto the articles you know — mon where le goes, ma where la goes, mes where les goes — so this lesson is mostly wiring an old habit into a new word.

le → mon, la → ma, les → mes. Run your family list through the map: le frère → mon frère, la tante → ma tante, les cousins → mes cousins.
Before a vowel sound French prefers mon even for feminine nouns: mon école. It exists for the ear — mah-ay would stumble where moh(n)-nay glides.
