La regla · The rule

The level above you is not more vocabulary so much as CHOICE. The same idea comes in three registers: coloquial (está muerto de cansancio), estándar (está muy cansado), culto (está agotado).

Y también · And also

You already own the middle one. C1 adds the other two, and — more importantly — the judgment about which one a moment deserves. This unit is the first sight of it, not the lesson itself; Module 1 of the Proficient band takes the register apart properly.

Ojo · Watch out

está muerto de cansancio (coloquial), está muy cansado (estándar), está agotado (culto): one idea, three registers. You own the middle one; the other two are recognized here, not yet drilled.

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 8 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with el registro.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write two sentences of your own that get the watch-out line right, then the two practice pages of workbook lesson 26 in Module 10 are the written half of this page.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
