La regla · The rule

Look back at Module 1 of the Basic band: hola was the whole of your Spanish. Today you choose a register, grant a point before you turn it, report what someone said without quoting them, and read a novel with its -ra pluperfects. That is the first half of C1 — written in your own hand.

Y también · And also

Module 2 completes C1: the literary language at length, the careful sentence, the press, and the argued essay. Ya casi llegas — you are almost there, and the view from here is worth the climb.

Ojo · Watch out

ya casi llegas: casi (almost) sits before the verb. el orgullo (pride) is the noun; orgulloso is the adjective and agrees: orgulloso, orgullosa. And dominar is to master a subject — dominar una lengua.

dominar, pretérito perfecto — the table

yo he dominado · tú has dominado · él/ella/usted ha dominado · nosotros hemos dominado · ustedes han dominado · ellos/ellas han dominado

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 9 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with la cumbre.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out dominar, pretérito perfecto in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
