La regla · The rule
The DELE C1 sets you two or three texts and asks for one text that reports all of them without your opinion in it. It is harder than an essay, because you must hold several voices at once.
Y también · And also
The rule that saves you: organize by IDEA, never by text. A synthesis that says "the first text says… the second text says…" has not synthesized anything.
Ojo · Watch out
Organize a síntesis by IDEA, never by text. "The first text says… the second text says…" has not synthesized anything, and your own opinion has no place in it. sostener is irregular like tener: sostengo, sostienes.
sostener, presente — the table
yo sostengo · tú sostienes · él/ella/usted sostiene · nosotros sostenemos · ustedes sostienen · ellos/ellas sostienen
Do it now — on paper
Say all 9 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with la síntesis de textos.
Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
Write out sostener, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.
This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
