La regla · The rule

The C1 essay differs from the B2 one in a single respect: it expects you to have a position that survives the counter-argument, not one that avoids it.

Y también · And also

Practically, that means part two has to be written by someone who disagrees with you and means it. If you cannot write that part convincingly, your position is probably not the interesting one.

Ojo · Watch out

Part two must be written by someone who disagrees with you and means it. If you cannot write it convincingly, your position is not yet interesting. convencer changes c to z before o: convenzo.

convencer, presente — the table

yo convenzo · tú convences · él/ella/usted convence · nosotros convencemos · ustedes convencen · ellos/ellas convencen

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 9 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with sobrevivir a.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out convencer, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
