Module 14 of the free Spanish course (CEFR C2, continued), lesson 28 of 30: A letter that has to do several things at once, inform, object and request. On this page: 9 words with their genders and respellings, the rule, a watch-out line, the conjugation table and the audio — the study notes behind the workbook's QR.

La regla · The rule

A letter that has to do several things at once — inform, object and request — needs a paragraph for each and a sentence that says so: quisiera poner en su conocimiento tres puntos.

Y también · And also

Announce the count. Formal letters that number their points are read faster and answered more often, and the reader can reply to point two without rereading the whole thing.

Ojo · Watch out

poner en conocimiento de is to inform of (quisiera poner en su conocimiento tres puntos), a formula that never changes. Announce the count and number the points — the reader answers point two without rereading the letter.

hacer, presente — the table

yo hago · tú haces · él/ella/usted hace · nosotros hacemos · ustedes hacen · ellos/ellas hacen

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 9 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with poner en conocimiento de.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out hacer, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
