La regla · The rule

Most professional Spanish is skimmed, and writing for a skimmer is a register decision. Front-load: the request in the first line, the reasons after.

Y también · And also

Una petición, un plazo, un archivo adjunto — in that order, in the first three lines. Everything else can be read or not read, and a reader who stops after three lines still knows what to do.

Ojo · Watch out

Una petición, un plazo, un archivo adjunto — in that order, in the first three lines. poner por delante is to put up front; leído por encima (skim-read) uses leído, the participle of leer. apurado is in a hurry in Latin America.

pedir, presente — the table

yo pido · tú pides · él/ella/usted pide · nosotros pedimos · ustedes piden · ellos/ellas piden

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 10 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with leído por encima.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out pedir, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
