La regla · The rule

Read the list and do not be modest about it. You read a newspaper, a report and a novel. You write a letter, an essay, a synthesis and a complaint. You narrate, hypothesize, concede and refuse.

Y también · And also

You choose a register on purpose. You hear an idiom and an irony. And you know where your own Spanish is weakest, which is a C2 skill in its own right.

Ojo · Watch out

saber dónde uno es débil is una competencia en sí, a skill in itself. saber is irregular — sé, sabes, sabemos, past participle sabido. sin exagerar means without exaggerating, not without saying.

saber, presente — the table

yo sé · tú sabes · él/ella/usted sabe · nosotros sabemos · ustedes saben · ellos/ellas saben

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 9 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with la lista de lo que haces.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out saber, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
