Mi familia — the people review

Module 5 of the free Spanish course (CEFR A2 mastery + the B1 bridge), lesson 1 of 30: . On this page: 8 words with their genders and respellings, the rule, a watch-out line, the conjugation table and the audio — the study notes behind the workbook's QR.

Respellings follow the course’s say-it key; the stressed syllable is in capitals. Print this lesson’s flashcards (PDF) — the words on the front, the English and respelling on the back.

La regla · The rule

Module 5 is the mastery lap: every lesson replays a piece of the band, faster and mixed, then the exam shapes take over.

Y también · And also

First lap: the family, with ser in every person. Esta es mi familia: mi padre, mi madre, mis dos hermanas y mi hermano menor. Somos seis. Mis abuelos viven cerca.

Ojo · Watch out

esta es mi familia introduces with esta (this, f) because familia is feminine; for a brother it is este es mi hermano. The pointing word agrees.

ser, presente — the table

yo soy · tú eres · él/ella/usted es · nosotros somos · ustedes son · ellos/ellas son

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 8 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with la familia.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out ser, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
