Seré — the one-word future

Module 5 of the free Spanish course (CEFR A2 mastery + the B1 bridge), lesson 16 of 30: B1's first gift, met early: the futuro simple, one word. On this page: 7 words with their genders and respellings, the rule, a watch-out line, the conjugation table and the audio — the study notes behind the workbook's QR.

La regla · The rule

B1's first gift, met early: the futuro simple — one word, no ir a needed. Ser gives seré, serás, será, seremos, serán; tener gives tendré, tendrás, tendrá, tendremos, tendrán.

Y también · And also

De grande seré piloto — when I grow up I will be a pilot. Mañana habrá sol — there will be sun. Habrá is the future of hay: one fixed form for singular and plural.

Ojo · Watch out

habrá (there will be) is one fixed form for singular and plural, like hay and había. And every futuro simple carries an accent except the nosotros form: seré, será, but seremos.

ser, futuro — the table

yo seré · tú serás · él/ella/usted será · nosotros seremos · ustedes serán · ellos/ellas serán

tener, futuro — the table

yo tendré · tú tendrás · él/ella/usted tendrá · nosotros tendremos · ustedes tendrán · ellos/ellas tendrán

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 7 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with yo seré.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out ser, futuro and tener, futuro in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
