La regla · The rule

Regular verbs build the future on the WHOLE infinitive: hablar gives hablaré, hablarás, hablará; comer gives comeré; vivir gives viviré. One set of endings for all three families.

Y también · And also

Ir and hacer shorten their stems: iré, haré. El año que viene hablaré bien español. Un día iré a Lima en avión.

Ojo · Watch out

hacer shortens to har- in the future: haré, harás, hará — never haceré. ir keeps its whole two letters: iré, irás, irá.

hablar, futuro — the table

yo hablaré · tú hablarás · él/ella/usted hablará · nosotros hablaremos · ustedes hablarán · ellos/ellas hablarán

ir, futuro — the table

yo iré · tú irás · él/ella/usted irá · nosotros iremos · ustedes irán · ellos/ellas irán

hacer, futuro — the table

yo haré · tú harás · él/ella/usted hará · nosotros haremos · ustedes harán · ellos/ellas harán

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 8 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with yo hablaré.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out hablar, futuro and ir, futuro and hacer, futuro in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
