The reflexive day, replayed

Module 5 of the free Spanish course (CEFR A2 mastery + the B1 bridge), lesson 4 of 30: The whole reflexive routine in one breath: me despierto, me levanto. On this page: 7 words with their genders and respellings, the rule, a watch-out line, the conjugation table and the audio — the study notes behind the workbook's QR.

Respellings follow the course’s say-it key; the stressed syllable is in capitals. Print this lesson’s flashcards (PDF) — the words on the front, the English and respelling on the back.

La regla · The rule

The whole reflexive routine in one breath: me despierto, me levanto, me ducho, me visto, me lavo los dientes, me acuesto.

Y también · And also

Then at someone else: él se levanta a las seis — ¿y tú, a qué hora te levantas? Temprano o tarde — early or late — is the only honest answer.

Ojo · Watch out

The reflexive pronoun changes with the person: me levanto, te levantas, se levanta. Listing the routine fast is where me, te and se get dropped — keep them.

levantarse, presente — the table

yo me levanto · tú te levantas · él/ella/usted se levanta · nosotros nos levantamos · ustedes se levantan · ellos/ellas se levantan

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 7 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with yo me despierto.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out levantarse, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
