La regla · The rule
The pharmacy is a first stop, not a last one, in every Spanish-speaking town, and the pharmacist will talk to you. Bring your receta (prescription) if you have one; ask for the rest across the counter: ¿tiene algo para el dolor de cabeza? — do you have something for a headache?
Y también · And also
Useful shapes: tres veces al día (three times a day), cada ocho horas (every eight hours), con las comidas (with meals). Tómelas cada ocho horas is a polite command with the pronoun attached — the usted command you met in Module 1 of this band.
Ojo · Watch out
la receta is the prescription — and also a recipe: the context decides. la pastilla is the pill; in some countries you will hear la píldora or el comprimido, and all three are understood.
Do it now — on paper
Say all 9 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with la farmacia.
Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
Write two sentences of your own that get the watch-out line right, then the two practice pages of workbook lesson 10 in Module 7 are the written half of this page.
This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
