La regla · The rule
Energy vocabulary turns up in every B2 exam text. La energía renovable (renewable energy), el carbón (coal), el petróleo — which is crude oil, not gasoline, and catches English speakers every time. Gasoline is la gasolina.
Y también · And also
Consumir is to consume, desperdiciar is to waste, and the two shape most of the argument: consumimos demasiado y desperdiciamos aún más. Proteger changes its g to j in the yo form to keep the sound: protejo el bosque.
Ojo · Watch out
el petróleo is crude oil, never gasoline — that is la gasolina. And protejo takes a j in the yo form only: protejo, proteges, protege — the g would say a different sound before o.
proteger, presente — the table
yo protejo · tú proteges · él/ella/usted protege · nosotros protegemos · ustedes protegen · ellos/ellas protegen
Do it now — on paper
Say all 11 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with la energía renovable.
Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
Write out proteger, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.
This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
