La regla · The rule
The press has its own furniture: un diario is a daily paper, un semanario a weekly, la portada the front page, un reportaje a news feature. Los medios (the media) takes a plural verb: los medios hablan mucho del tema.
Y también · And also
El noticiero is the TV news in Latin America — el telediario in Spain. La suscripción is the subscription, and publicar is to publish: el diario publica la noticia en portada. Context decides whether la noticia is one news item or the news.
Ojo · Watch out
los medios takes a plural verb: los medios son. el noticiero is the TV news in Latin America; Spain says el telediario. And la portada is the front page — of a paper or a book.
publicar, presente — the table
yo publico · tú publicas · él/ella/usted publica · nosotros publicamos · ustedes publican · ellos/ellas publican
Do it now — on paper
Say all 9 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with el diario.
Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
Write out publicar, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.
This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
