About this book
The two kinds of math a child spends — in US and Canadian money.
110 pages · 78 practice sets · 2,146 problems — every one with its answer in the full printed key, and the four Check Yourself pages worked through line by line.
Clocks and money are the first math a child uses in the real world, and this book treats both honestly. Every clock face is drawn with the hour hand where it really sits — halfway along at half past — because that is exactly the thing children misread. And the money climbs like real money does: the coins by name and value, then handfuls, then the dollar, then the bills to $100, then whole wallets of bills and coins together, written the way every price tag writes them. Around the clock sits the rest of real time: days and months, reading a calendar, reading a timetable, station clocks in Roman numerals, and how long it is from one time to the next.
Made for both sides of the border. The coins and bills in this book are the values American and Canadian pockets share — pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters, the dollar, and the same five bills — and the last two pages are a toonie finale for our Canadian friends, which anyone may work, because a $2 is just 200 cents.
Not the same thing over and over. Three Looking Back pages mix everything the earlier stages taught, so o'clock is still being read while the wallet is being counted. After each Check Yourself page comes a Puzzle Break: a clock code that spells words, time chains, pyramids and magic squares of cents, which-coins riddles with exactly one answer. Every rung opens with a one-line tip; every stage with a QR code to fresh printable practice.
An answer key you can trust, by construction. Every one of the 2,146 answers was computed together with its problem and independently re-checked by a separate program before printing. The key and the questions agree by construction — not by proofreading.
