La regla · The rule

Give yourself five minutes at the end and check four things only, in this order: verb endings, agreements, accent marks, and the words you know you always get wrong.

Y también · And also

Reading it backwards sentence by sentence stops your eye from smoothing over what you meant to write. It is the single cheapest way to gain marks in any language exam. Tú terminas a tiempo — you finish on time — because you planned the five minutes.

Ojo · Watch out

Check four things only, in this order: verb endings, agreements, accent marks, your own recurring errors. Reading backwards, sentence by sentence, stops the eye smoothing over them.

terminar, presente — the table

yo termino · tú terminas · él/ella/usted termina · nosotros terminamos · ustedes terminan · ellos/ellas terminan

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 9 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with releer.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out terminar, presente in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
