La regla · The rule

The condicional loves a si-clause: si tuviera tiempo, me quedaría aquí — if I had time, I would stay here. Tuviera, pudiera, fuera are the imperfecto de subjuntivo, and Module 3 of this band builds that form properly. Here you meet it in three phrases.

Y también · And also

Si pudiera (if I could), si tuviera (if I had), si fuera (if I were): learn them whole, then attach any conditional. Si fuera rico, viajaría. Si pudiera, aquí me quedaría. Watch what the si half is NOT: it is not about the past. Si tuviera means if I HAD, now.

Ojo · Watch out

si + pudiera / tuviera / fuera is a wish about NOW, not the past: si tuviera tiempo means if I had time today. And the condicional stays OUT of the si half: never si tendría tiempo.

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 9 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with si pudiera.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write two sentences of your own that get the watch-out line right, then the two practice pages of workbook lesson 13 in Module 6 are the written half of this page.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
