La reunión

Module 9 of the free Spanish course (CEFR B2, completed), lesson 24 of 30: Meeting language is a register of its own. On this page: 10 words with their genders and respellings, the rule, a watch-out line, the conjugation table and the audio — the study notes behind the workbook's QR.

Respellings follow the course’s say-it key; the stressed syllable is in capitals. Print this lesson’s flashcards (PDF) — the words on the front, the English and respelling on the back.

La regla · The rule

Meeting language is a register of its own. Abrir la sesión (open the meeting), el orden del día (the agenda), hacer balance (take stock), tomar una decisión, aplazar (postpone). El acta is the minutes — feminine, but it takes el, like el agua.

Y también · And also

To join in: si me permiten, quisiera añadir un punto; vuelvo a lo que se dijo antes. That last one is the relative from Unit 4 doing professional work. Enviaré el acta mañana — I will send the minutes tomorrow: the futuro of enviar, with its accent on the í in the present (envío) but not here.

Ojo · Watch out

el acta is feminine — el acta larga, las actas — and takes el only in the singular, like el agua. el orden del día is the agenda; breve means brief; and aplazar is to postpone, not to applaud.

enviar, futuro — the table

yo enviaré · tú enviarás · él/ella/usted enviará · nosotros enviaremos · ustedes enviarán · ellos/ellas enviarán

Do it now — on paper

  1. Say all 10 words aloud twice from the respelling, then once from the Spanish spelling alone — begin with el orden del día.
  2. Copy every word with its accents on paper; then cover the English column and write each meaning back from the Spanish.
  3. Write out enviar, futuro in full from memory, every person, and check each form against the table above.

This free course is the reading half. The writing half — write-in lessons, daily practice pages with built-in review, self-checks and a full answer key — is the companion workbook series, The Spanish Ladder: one workbook per module, fifteen in all, released band by band with the Basic band (Modules 1–5) first.
